In just a couple weeks I am moving to Gainesville, Georgia to attend a 5-month discipleship program called CGA, Center for Global Action. Their goal is to develop character and the ability to lead others emotionally and spiritually.
It’s funny because only two months ago, I wasn’t sure if I was going to move forward with this program. As I prayed about it, I kept telling God that I would do anything He asked me to as long as He promised He would provide for me financially. Fundraising has been one of the hardest parts of my time as a missionary. Trusting God with things like your future and your safety and your health are all these kind of vague things that could turn out a hundred different ways in any amount of time. But trusting God with money…you either have the money to pay the bills on time or you don’t. For me, it’s the most tangible way I see God moving sometimes. There is a part of me that sees the $6000 I have to raise for CGA, knowing a third of that is due in 18 DAYS, and I have some big doubts.
December 2018 – Fundraising Update for 11n11
A couple months ago, while I was on the field leading a team in Peru, I was praying about my next step for what felt like the hundredth time, and God told me that I was asking the wrong question. I was asking where He’d send the money – I wanted to follow financially stability. So I asked Him what question I should be asking, and He said to ask where I’ll find Him. So I asked Him, and I felt Him lead me to CGA. CGA is not where the money is, but it’s where God is. And even if everything in me doubts that I’ll come up with $2000 by January 20th, there’s some small part of me that hopes that God will come through. Faith as small as a mustard seed, right? These days I can feel how small that is, and I’m hoping scripture is true in saying that it’s all I need.
Fall 2019 – Fundraiser Giveaway for Team Leading
Adventures In Missions calls your mission trip “Year 1”. Most of the time it is people’s first year of fully, completely running after the Lord with everything they have. Then, they talk about Year 2. It’s incredible to complete Year 1, to accomplish what we accomplished, to finish out the Race strong. But it’s just as important how you spend your Year 2. That’s what this program is about. How can I take what I learned, what I experienced, what I saw in the past year and use it to impact the world around me. Moving from a participant mentality to being an active leader.
During my time as a team leader for the Semesters trip this past fall, God awoken in me a desire to disciple others. It is a beautiful thing to get to walk alongside people as they experience the freedom and love of the Lord like never before. My hope is that with that desire, this program will give me the practical skills and tools I need to walk that out in whatever field I find myself in next – whether that’s in a job, back on the field, or in grad school.
